Istria, Rabac
Description of destination
Rabac is a tourist center and harbor on the south-east coast of Istria, located in a small cove near Labin.
Today a well-known tourist resort, by the middle of the 19th century, Rabac was just a small fishermen village with hardly ten houses. 'Quarnaro', the first hotel in Rabac, was opened in 1889.
At that time Rabac witnessed the building of the first villas. The most well-known was the villa belonging to the Prohaska family, Czechs by origin. Villa was destroyed during the second world war. One of the most attractive wooded locations in Rabac still bears the name of Prohaska. Landscape is ideal for mountain biking, jogging and hiking.
The oldest architectural heritage of this summer resort is Church of St. Andrew from the 15th.Cent., located near the main promenade.
Rabac is especially attractive for its many white, pebble beaches.
As a confirmation of a clean sea and preserved pebble beaches, Rabac was awarded with the "Blue Flag" eco-mark in 2002.
Maslinica and Girandella are the two largest beaches in Rabac. St Andrea and Lanterna beach, are located near the natural shade of fragrant pine trees.
Along the coast, there are many smaller pebble beaches. Sun shades and deck chairs can be rented on the beach.
On the beaches are provided excellent sport and recreational activities such as: boats, canoes, pedal boats renting; Wind surfing; Banana ride etc.
Along the sea coast, known as the Lungo Mare, are settled various restaurants with local food, pizzerias, cocktail and beach bars.
We suggest you to relax in the evening, in one of the bars with fine cocktails and live music or live DJ performances.
